“I find your lack of faith disturbing”. Darth Vadar
Join us this fall at St. Demetrios both in person and on the Internet at www.myocn.net where Frs. Christopher and Spiro will examine some of the most fundamental questions and issues facing us today. There is a great gulf today between what is popular known as liberalism and conservatism. Each side demands that you not only disagree with but distain the other as (at best) crazy or (at worst) evil. This is particularly true when religion is the point at issue. When we meet most people today we usually know to stay away from two issues, faith and politics. But is that being true to the Gospel of Christ?
Which is it? Is skepticism or faith on the ascendancy in the world of today? The answer is Yes. The enemies are both right. Skepticism, fear and anger toward traditional religion are growing in power and influence. But at the same time, robust, orthodox belief in the traditional faiths is growing as well.
The non-church going population is the United States and Europe is steadily increasing. The number of Americans answering "no religious preference to poll questions has skyrocketed, having doubled or even tripled in the last decade. Three generations ago, most people inherited rather than chose their religious faith. Because doubt and belief are each on the rise, our political and public discourse on matters of faith and morality has become deadlocked and deeply divided. We don't reason with the other side; we only denounce.
So what are we to do? Hide our heads in the sand and hope the storm will pass? No way! Come and be a part of this exciting second year of Adult Christian Education courses. This year's class is based on the best selling book, The Reason for God, Belief in an Age of Skepticism by Timothy Keller.
