A Devoted Heart
Dear friends of “A Devoted Heart” this Sunday, February 21, at 12:30 until 1:00 (30 min. only) we will be meeting to begin studying a new series on “The Lord’s Prayer.”
We will be studying in depth, line by line what Jesus meant when he said, “After this manner therefore pray ye,” (Matthew 6:9)
The Lord’s Prayer is a prayer the Lord Jesus taught His disciples in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4.
Matthew 6:9-13 says, “After this manner therefore pray ye; Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever, Amen.”
Many Christians repeat this prayer in a memorized fashion as to invoke God as some “Cosmic Vending-Machine” who is there to give them whatever they ask for, without truly pausing to reflect on each line they are saying.
But, what if the Lord’s Prayer was an actual guideline in HOW to pray instead of just what to say?
Many people can recite the Lord’s Prayer without being able to explain what it means or answer basic questions about it. During this series we are going to break it down very simply to help us all better understand what Jesus was teaching about prayer through the Lord’s prayer.
For God’s Glory alone,
