A Devoted Heart

a-devoted-heart-sept-18

Dear Friends of “A Devoted Heart” our adult Bible study class is back in session.

For this year’s Bible Study, we will be chronologically reading scripture to study the events of Jesus Christs’ life from a baby to a man.  In studying the scriptures, we will see how, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. – John 1:14

What is the demographic of St. Demetrios?

Looking at the pews on any given Sunday, one might answer, an extremely devoted older community which has been our pillar of strength, endurance and perseverance throughout the decades. So I find it perfectly fitting to open our first Bible study studying, Joachim and Anna. They are the parents of our Theotokos and grandparents of Jesus.

“May the risen Christ, our true God, with the prayers of his pure and holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the spiritual powers of Heaven…the holy and righteous ancestors Joachim and Anna…and all the saints whose memory we celebrate have mercy on us and save us”.     St. Joachim and St. Anna are an integral part of the Divine Liturgy and are always mentioned in the prayerful conclusion of services.

So what can we learn from the devoted hearts of these grandparents?

The entire parish of St. Demetrios, under the new spiritual leadership of Fr. Jim, desires to grow and thrive spiritually for all generations.  On this mission, we must never forget the foundation laid and the way paved by all our grandparents with their legacy to have a devoted heart to our risen Savior!

I pray the Holy Spirit draws your heart to join us for our Bible studies; where all generations at St. Demetrios will study the Gospels together to advance the Kingdom of Jesus Christ!

See you today at 12:30-1:30 in the hall with your coffee and koulourakia to study the living Word of God.

For God’s Glory alone,

Helena and Christian
